Características: Windows XP Home procesdor 2.66 pentium 4 disco 60gb.

holas... tengo un problema ke no se como solucionar ..instale una lectora y entonces al encender la computadora me aparecio esto: "REBOOT AND SELECT PROPER BOOT DEVICE OR INSERT BOOT MEDIA IN SELECTED BOOT DEVICE AND PRESS A KEY "con letras blancas y fondo negro ..q raro y no me deja encender la pc pero si saco la lectora y enciendo la pc inicia normal ....xq no puedo instalar la lectora..???

Probablemente porque la estas instalando mal. Comprueba como está configurada (si como Master o como Slave) y ten presente que en cada conector IDE solo puede haber un Master y un Slave.
